Jacqui Smith

Jacqui Smith - Account Director

New Zealand-born Jacqui caught the travel bug when she studied in Strasbourg, France for a year. Not only did she leave speaking and writing French, but she also picked up smatterings of language and traditions from the neighboring countries she had visited. Hooked on travel, she then set out to explore as much of the world as possible. What followed were escapades involving plowing through hip-deep snow in the Himalayas in India during a blizzard, close encounters with rhino in the jungle of Nepal, and perhaps the most frightening, riding rollercoasters in a near empty theme park in Guangzhou, China.

After completing a degree in Communications Studies majoring in journalism from AUT University in Auckland, New Zealand, Jacqui spent six years reporting on business, education and entertainment. Finally, when she was lucky enough to move to a desk near the travel editor, she won assignments traveling to remote Northern China and the United States for The New Zealand Herald.

She then moved to Singapore, where she intended to do a little travel South-east Asia before moving to the UK, as is the rite of passage of all New Zealanders. But she fell in love with Asia, so stayed for four and a half years, working with an advertising and PR agency, before moving in-house as the PR Manager for South and South-east Asia at Tourism New Zealand.

During her time at the tourism board, she worked on the appointment of highly-successful social media influencers to Indonesia, India and Singapore, and managed three agencies.

Having ticked 30 countries off her list, she moved to New York, where a year later, she is still only a fraction of the way through exploring the vibrant and distinct atmosphere of each neighborhood.

Since joining DQMPR in 2016, Jacqui has promoted American visitation to New Zealand through press trips and content assistance. In the past six months she has worked with journalists to place stories in Fodors, Frommers, LA Magazine, The Daily Meal, Variety, Departures, Conde Nast Traveler, Paste Magazine, NY Post, amNewYork, Shermans Travel, ASPIRE Metro and the Tribune Syndicate.
